Red Maca

What is the Red Maca?

Red Maca also is known as Lepidium peruvianum/Lepidium meyenii is a powerful but rarest herb in all varieties. It is identified with its pink or purple color. Just like other common types of plants, it grows under similar conditions as well as in the same region. Its unique properties make it the best maca of choice.

Maca has significantly gained popularity over the past few years. And after two years of trial, it has been my favorite variety because of the high potency and its credible taste.

How is Maca Different?

It is quite easy to differentiate between the red, black, and yellow maca just before roots turns into powder. When you visit the farm, you’ll realize that each root has a slight difference in color.

The high quality organically grown maca powders have a similar nutritional profile. However, phytonutrient has shown that red variety has higher compounds that help the body in antioxidant and antitumoral activity. Among all other macas, it also contains some high level of other phytonutrients such as steroids, saponins, tannins, alkaloids.

Taste is another significant difference between red maca and black and yellow/cream Macas. Its taste is more gentle and mild. Therefore, one can identify taste to be similar to subtle caramel. We even recently saw a review from a customer saying her kid has developed interest on red maca on oatmeal in favor of sugar due to its sweetness.

The study under the phytochemical analysis for seven functional nutrient group reports that Red Maca reduces ventral prostate in rats and not black, or yellow/cream Maca. Similarly, the report suggests that Red Maca recorded the highest peak value, while Yellow/Cream Maca shown the average and low cost for Black Maca.

The researchers from Universidad Peruana, Lima researched in 2010 and published a study showing the effects of Maca on rat’s bone structure after removing their ovaries. Both Red and Black Maca have proved to have protective effects in OVX rats with no estrogenic on uterine weight.

The other study done in 2009 from the same University, shows that Black Maca increases sperm production more than Red or Yellow Maca. Phytomedicine

Man have been using plants and their products to treat diseases for a long period of time. Romans, early Egyptians, Indians, ancient Greeks and Native American Indians are some of the people who have been using plants to treat diseases. Phytomedicine is a term which was coined by Henri Leclerc (a French Physician) from 1870 to 1955. Henri did a lot of research and wrote numerous essays on the use of medicinal plants by man. As more research is being conducted today, a lot of people have learnt about plant medicines. This has made herbal medicines popular among the people. In fact, herbal medicines are among the ten fastest growing industries in the US.

According to herbalists, your body is self-healing and herbs should be used to enhance wellness rather than treating a disease or relieving symptoms. Therefore, herbalists aim to reestablish your homeostatic balance despite facing any environmental changes. If you are sick, your body does not have a homeostatic balance. Hence, for you to recover, you need to restore the internal body balance.

However, it is important to understand that herbalists mainly rely on two factors to determine your treatment plan. First, they will have to consider the history of the patient to know their medical history and whether they have had a similar disease. This is important because it can help them determine the medications they will provide depending on the disease being treated. Secondly, the herbalists have to review your physiologic symptoms to determine how your body is functioning. In most cases, herbalists do not rely on laboratory tests. One of the reasons why they do not rely on lab tests is lack of these facilities because they tend to think that laboratory results may not display the whole picture. Secondly, most patients who seek help from herbalists do so after getting a diagnosis from a physician and they are not satisfied with the results.

Herbal therapy’s main objective is to assist the body in gaining wellness rather than trying to block or reverse the process that causes the disease. The longer the condition exists in your body, the longer the process of restoring your homeostatic balance or have any positive changes in your body. To treat a disease, herbalists mainly focus on your lifestyle. Therefore, you may have slight lifestyle changes and nutritional changes to regain your internal body balance.

Each and every individual have different medical needs depending on factors such as body size, age, sex etc. Therefore, even if you have got the same disease, you may end up having different treatment protocols and plans. Herbalists know that a particular plant may have two, three or four actions on your body and when used as advised the herb may restore your body wellness.

Nowadays, most European nations promote and favour the use of herbal treatment mainly due to the forms of medicines practised there. In fact, if you would like to learn more about herbal medicine, you should consider reading the German Commission E Monographs. These monographs are a synopsis of the current studies in phytomedicine. The monograph not only provides identification but also safety issues, therapeutic use and expected side effects of more than 100 plants.
